Redmond named as Hawks basketball coach

Holly Springs High School has named Rodney Redmond Jr. as the head coach of the Hawks boys basketball team.

Redmond brings a winning experience to the Hawks team. He has led the Junior High and Peewee Hawks to win the Northeast Mississippi Conference championship for two years.

“I’m very thankful and blessed to have this opportunity. It’s really a dream come true,” Redmond said. “I’ve always been a student of the game first, and now that has put me in a position to teach the game at a higher level. There is a chance at making history once again by the hometown kid winning championships at his alma mater on all three levels. I have won championships for the peewee. I have won championships at the junior high, and now it’s time to seal it off with some high school championships again. I could be the first coach to bring Holly Springs School District titles on all three levels.”

The Holly Springs Junior High wrapped up an undefeated season (19-0) and had a second straight undefeated season. Redmond was awarded 2024 Coach of the Year.

“By me being born and raised here and have played in the black and gold, makes this new challenge and new journey worth every second,” Redmond said. “We have three major assignments while I’m here and that’s first, win titles, secondly, graduate and get that diploma, and lastly, go off to college and be somebody (whether it’s on a scholarship or not). This isn’t going to be easy but we will make it happen for sure. The blueprint is in full effect.”
