Ruby Allene Teel
Ruby Allene Gardner Teel, 98, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away at her home near Mt. Pleasant on April 24, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born on September 28, 1925, to CD Gibbons Gardner and Viola Marie Nicholson Gardner. Allene was a member of Carey Chapel Baptist Church.
Allene was preceded in death by her husband, Campbell Teel; her son, Ivy Wayne Teel; daughter-in-law, Patricia Teel; parents, CD Gibbons Gardner and Viola Marie Gardner; her step-mother, Aurilla Gardner; brother, Howard Gardner; sisters, Marie Cothern and Floy Wilson; and her greatgrandson, Mathias Goode.
Allene was known for her love of growing beautiful flowers and a bountiful garden. She wrote the Carey Chapel-Mt Pleasant weekly news column for The South Reporter for fifty years. Among her accomplishments she was most proud of, was the book she wrote entitled "My Memories," about her childhood growing up during the Great Depression. Allene was also an accomplished seamstress, crafter, Sunday School teacher, Room Mother, and also served as PTA President. She collected more than 900 antique and unusual bottles. On her 95th birthday, she was presented an American Flag that had flown over the United States Capitol from Congressman Trent Kelly, for her "lifetime of service to the people of Mississippi."
Allene leaves behind, to morn her memory her daughters, Martha Fant of Holly Springs, Kathy Goode (Arnold) of Mt Pleasant, and Madge Winburn (Johnny) of Hickory Flat. She is also survived by grandchildren, Gary Wayne Teel (Beverly), Ginger Byrd (Darrell Stephens), Amy Palmer (Blake), Randy Mayer, David Goode (Alisa), Laura Reynolds (Michael), Danny Goode (Christie), Paul Goode (Tanya), Leah Green (Michael), Chris Winburn; 24 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
Services for Allene were held at Carey Chapel Baptist Church on Monday, April 29, 2024, at 11 a.m. A visitation for family and friends was held at the church on Sunday afternoon, April 28, from 4-7pm. Barry Littlefield and Arnold Goode officiated the service and pallbearers were her grandsons, with great-grandsons serving as honorary pallbearers. Burial followed the service at Carey Chapel Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Carey Chapel Baptist Cemetery, P.O. Box 3, Mt. Pleasant, MS 38649.
