Hawks and Indians have disappointing end to season

The Holly Springs Hawks were sent home early after a 53-46 loss to Choctaw County High School in the first round.

As for their county rival, Byhalia High School, they, too, finished the season losing to their first-round opponent, West Lauderdale High School, 60-55.

Both teams gave it their all, which was the season-ending game for both programs. But on the bright side, Holly Springs and Byhalia both have respectable programs and look to bounce back next season.

Holly Springs coach Luke Chapman said he learned a lot about his program in his first season.

“I’m grateful for this year,” Chapman said. “Coming into a program that needed some restoration, I think we’re on the right path now.”

Chapman said the standard of hard work has now been set.

“It’s my job to keep it at a high level. I’m excited to have a full off-season with the guys,” Chapman said. “An off-season filled with skill development, weight training, and summer ball. We can’t have a team that only talks about hard work. We must have a team willing to put in the work.”
