Leonard Seth Penrod Jr.
Leonard Seth Penrod Jr., a beloved resident of Byhalia, MS (formerly of South Bend, Indiana), passed away on June 27, 2023, at the Memphis VA Medical Center. Born on December 20, 1950, in South Bend, Indiana, Leonard was the son of Leonard S. and Myrtle E. Penrod Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sisters, Rosille "Dolly" Price, Susan Nelis, and Eva Davis.
Leonard proudly served his country as a veteran of the US Army. Following his military service, he dedicated himself to providing for his family, working as a construction worker and business owner. Leonard had a strong passion for coaching youth sports, and his mentorship had a positive impact on the lives of many young athletes in the Mishawaka area.
Sports held a special place in Leonard's heart. He was an avid fan of wrestling, the White Sox, Notre Dame Football, and the Blackhawks. The enthusiasm he shared for these sports was infectious, and the love of the games brought him much joy and excitement.
Leonard had a magnetic personality and had never met a stranger in his life. His warm smile and witty banner created an atmosphere of love and acceptance. His remarkable ability to connect with people came from a kind and generous heart, he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Penny; and their children, Chastity Sanders (Thomas), and Scotty Penrod. He will be deeply missed by his six grandsons, Joshua Sanders (Morgan), Åndrew Sanders, Kody Jackmovich, Trevor, Riley and Nathan Penrod, as well as, his three granddaughters, Savana Penrod, Lexi Dye and Aubrey Penrod. Additionally, he leaves behind three greatgrandchildren, Alexander Sanders, Adelyn and Ashton Straub. His sister, Vernia "Bunnie" Paulat also mourns his loss. Furthermore, Leonard is survived by his beloved best friend and companion, the service dog, Buddy.
Leonard Seth Penrod Jr. will be remembered as a devoted family man, a proud veteran, and a mentor to many. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him, and his legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire others.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by R. Benard's Funeral Home. A celebration of Leonard's life and a VA Memorial Park family graveside service will be announced at a later date.
