Aldermen override mayor’s vetos

At a special meeting of the Holly Springs Board of Aldermen called by aldermanat- large Dexter Shipp for Wednesday, June 14 at 5:30 p.m., two vetos by Mayor Sharon Gipson were unanimously overridden. All five aldermen were present at the special meeting.

The board overrode a veto by Gipson of a motion passed by the board on May 16 for travel for Human Resources director Pat Dawson to attend training.

At the special meeting, the board of aldermen also unanimously overrode the mayor’s veto of a May 16 motion made by Shipp for travel for dispatcher training for Vinita Raimey and Shawanna Moton.

Shipp placed the motions for travel for training for Dawson and police department employees Raimey and Moton on the agenda at the beginning of the May 16 meeting of the Holly Springs Mayor and Board of Aldermen. The motions, added to the agenda by Shipp, were placed on the agenda, and the agenda was adopted by the aldermen present.

At the May 16 meeting, three aldermen were present – Shipp, Ward 1 alderman Bernita Fountain, and Ward 4 alderman Patricia Merriweather.
