Change is good

It has been a beautiful week. Full of sunshine with a bit of rain over the weekend. The change has been good after all the bad weather that has come our way since the first of the year. Change is good, not only for the weather but for many things in our lives.

I’ve had many in the last two years. But the most significant change was moving to Holly Springs. I moved from my parents when I was 18 years old and from my apartment to the first apartment my exhusband and I had when we married. The next big move was when we bought our first house. But we never moved from northwest Alabama. I consider moving to Holly Springs my first big move, and it’s been great living here. I have meet many wonderful people and made many new friends.

But as I said, change is good. One change I made lately was changing the Bible I had been using for over the last 20+ years with another one. It is a great bible. It has maps, a dictionary, and concordance. But most of all, it had all the different passages underlined and highlighted from past readings or teachings. It has all the little notes I have written on the sidebars of the pages. I even have phone numbers and addresses I have written on some blank pages in the back. My daughter bought a leather Bible cover for my old, worn-out Bible. It fits perfectly and has two slots for a notebook, a pen, or a highlighter.

I have used this Bible for so many years. It has been to most of the churches I have visited and bible studies. I have used it for so long that I could not remember where I had put the first Bible I had bought. My daughter and I moved when her daddy and I divorced. That is the last time I remember seeing it. We divorced 18 years ago; that was the last time I saw it. I remember asking her Dad when we moved if he had seen it lying around his place; of course, he said he had not. I just gave up on finding it. Then, about a month ago, I noticed it was lying on Emily’s nightstand. I couldn't believe my eyes. I had to do a double-take. I asked her where she found my old Bible. “I dug it out of some boxes you have in the front bedroom,” she said. She found it in a box with some old keepsakes I had packed away.

I picked up the Bible and flipped through the pages like a new book. I still had some little pieces of notes stuffed in between the pages. In the front of the Bible, I listed some names and addresses of people I had met at different churches I had visited in my early twenties. Flipping through some of the pages, I noticed some verses I had underlined. It just brought back many memories. So, I decided to swap out the Bible I had used with my old Bible, at least for a little while. Change is good.
