Judge and Mrs. Kent Smith traveled to Jackson Thursday to attend a banquet honoring their eldest son, Jack Whaley Smith, for his STAR Student recognition at Marshall Academy. For those unfamiliar, STAR students are those who have exemplary grades as seniors as well as an outstanding ACT composite score. Students choose a teacher who has been a positive influence on them throughout their high school career. Whaley chose Kevin Massengill, math extraordinaire. The two were surrounded by intellectual equals from all over Mississippi who were also recognized for their STAR status.
One last field trip was taken by the senior class of Marshall Academy Friday. Any bit of angst from high school was able to be released in the form of balls filled with paint. At the end of the day, they gathered for “Farewells and Crawfish Tails”.
Saturday afternoon, Heath Barnett Field at Marshall Academy was packed to the brim. For the first time in years and years, there was a Powder Puff football game. Two teams battled it out on the field - the Blue Crew and the Endzone Divas. with a final score of 28- 14, the Endzone Divas dominated, cinching the win. The girls were coached by senior football players. After the game was over, the baseball team held a huge crawfish boil benefiting the team.
