Patriots win first series of district
Marshall Academy baseball has a new coach this year, Dustin Skelton. He brings a lot of playing experience to the table. He graduated and played baseball at Magnolia Heights High School, Senatobia. He continued his education at Mississippi State and played for the Bulldogs. In 2019, the Miami Marlins selected him in the 18th round; he signed on June 27, 2019.
Marshall Academy graduated 11 senior baseball players last year, leaving only one rising senior.
Three seniors transferred from Lewisburg High School this year, and the Patriots added two more juniors and a sophomore that transferred.
Marshall Academy has won the first series of district play against North Delta. They were the best two out of three games. The pitchers were: Eli Basham, game one, who scored 1-2; Nic McCormick, and Caden Freeman, game two. Score 16-3, and Walker Sanders pitched a shutout game three.
Olive Branch High School was the game leading into spring break. Eli Graves pitched five innings, allowing one run, and struck out nine. Following were pitchers to end the game, Lundine and Freeman. Freeman, Basham, McCormick, and Chumney each managed two hits to lead Marshall, with Basham hitting a homer. MA did not commit a single error in the field.
During spring break, Marshall tied 7-7 with East Webster High School Wolverines and Southeast Lauderdale High School Tigers 6-6. Marshall won the third game 14-0 against Columbus Christian Academy Rams.
The Patriots played at home Tuesday night against Lee Academy, a doubleheader, varsity second series of district play. The Patriots will play game three of the series on Thursday, March 23, at Lee Academy.
