Spring decided to take a break

It’s suddenly Sunday night again. The weeks are slipping by so fast. Spring decided to take a break, but I wish it would return soon.

This week I had a new roof put on the house. The old one was twenty years old and was beginning to leak. The crew who did the work did an outstanding job completing the work in a day and a half. Everything was left clean and tidy, and the workers were courteous. They even pulled my truck out when I got stuck in my front yard.

The Byhalia Area Arts Council hosts a monthly Song Share at the Old School Commons every third Monday night. Bring your songs, originals, and covers. You can share with fellow musicians. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the music. The fun starts at 7 p.m.

Congratulations to the Byhalia Bands for receiving an Excellent rating at state Concert festival evaluations. They were only a few percentage points away from superior ratings. The band has come a long way and improved so much since last year.

Two weeks ago, the crew collecting the garbage managed to crack my garbage can and partially break one of the hinges to the lid. Then last week, they broke the hinge completely off. I’m not upset about it as they have a hard job. I called for a replacement, and they agreed to provide it. However, new cans are on backorder until May.

The Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce held a wonderful annual awards luncheon last week. Many deserving individuals won awards, and the food provided by Clancy’s Café was delicious.

You may remember that money was taken from my checking account a few weeks ago. That was reimbursed, and a new debit card was ordered. I changed the payment info on all my accounts. Someone went shopping for new tires in Pennsylvania with the new card-nearly $500. My bank caught it and stopped the payment. Someone also has a new item from Giorgio Armani for $150, which isn’t me. I canceled the new card and will wait for another one. I must remember everywhere I go, that I do not have a debit card and make sure I have cash on hand.

Your local history lesson this week: Samuel Pines Ingram was one of seven children born to Lemuel and Sophie Wood (Billingsley) Ingram in Anson County, North Carolina. His birthplace was on land granted by King George III of England.

His grandfather Joseph Ingram, was an American Patriot in the Revolutionary War. Samuel Pines Ingram was married to Rebecca R. Scott in 1841, and came to Byhalia with other family members, buying their farmland from the original owner, a Chickasaw Indian named Bioke Tobie.
