Alameda Gatewood Smith

Evangelist First Lady Alameda Gatewood Smith, 70, of Byhalia, died March 9, 2023, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was a member of Newell Chapel CME Church in Victoria and served as first lady of Straightway Gospel Tabernacle Church (LICM).

Visitation will be held at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel from 12-6 p.m. on March 17. Services will be at 2 p.m. on March 18 at New Dimension Salt & Light Ministries. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah CME Church Cemetery in Byhalia.

She leaves her husband, Pastor Gerald K. Smith; two sons, Marco Lashun Rogers, Joe Earl Rogers Jr. (Shirley), both of Victoria; step-son, Gerald Bates of Tupelo; step-daughters, Tequila Williams, Veronica Moore (Mearino) both of Ashland; six brothers, Velva Lee Gatewood of Memphis, Tenn., Henry C. Gatewood of Jacksonville, Fla., John W. Gatewood, Wallace C. Gatewood (Brenda), both of Byhalia, Winford Neeley (Betty) of Olive Branch, Alvin Pritchard (Dennie) of Holly Springs; sisters, Lillie M. Brown of Victoria, Loretta Gates (Wade) of Tupelo, Kathryn Houston of Memphis; seven grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Bishop Michael T. Gatewood; brothers, Willie L. Gatewood, Arthur Gatewood, Elvin Gatewood Sr., Vannie Gatewood, Terry Gatewood; and sister, Earnestine Gatewood-Sykes.
