S. Chesterman shootings under investigation
Two additional shootings in the 100 block of South Chesterman Street are under investigation, according to Holly Springs Police Chief Grant Glover.
A drive-by shooting into a residence that had been shot up on Jan. 16, was fired on again Jan. 24 at 4:30 p.m., he said.
Officers arrived at the residence and observed a male holding a handgun outside the residence, Glover said. The householder put the gun back in the residence and returned to speak with officers. He was detained by officers and eventually arrested and charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, the chief said.
The householder posted $10,000 and was released the following day.
The case remains under investigation and several warrants for arrest of other suspects thought to be involved in the drive-by have been issued.
“In this instance, gunfire was exchanged with the householder and a driver of a silver vehicle,” Glover said. “The driver was struck multiple times and went to Alliance Hospital. The victim was transported by ambulance to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. He remains in critical condition at the hospital and is having surgeries.”
The silver vehicle was parked at Alliance Hospital and has been towed and impounded.
A male suspect, 19, from the Coopwood Drive area of Holly Springs is being sought.
A projectile struck another residence nearby in this second shooting.
Approximately 50 spent shell casings were recovered at the residence on Chesterman and include casings for assault rifle type weapons as well as handgun rounds, Grant said.
A third shooting the next day, Jan. 26 at 12:05 a.m. Took place in the same block of South Chesterman Street.
Officers recovered about 21 handgun shell casings from this shooting.
Glover said there are numerous suspects being sought who may be involved in these three shootings and community members are coming forward with information.
“We want the public to know we are investigating every tip coming in and we appreciate the public giving us this information,” the chief said. “We are interviewing relatives on both sides of these shootings.”
