Ruth Toles Smith

Ruth Toles Smith, 98, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 26, 2022, at her daughter's home in Holly Springs. She was a member of Anderson Chapel CME Church where she served in the Women's Missionary Society, treasurer for the Benevolent Fund, church stewardess, Sunday School teacher, member of the adult choir and co-director of the children's choir. She was a retired educator with the Marshall County School System.

Visitation will be held at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home on Dec. 1 from 12-2 p.m.; and at Anderson Chapel CME Church from 4-6 p.m.; and on Dec. 2, from 10-10:55 a.m. with services at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Leon C. Moore Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Cottrell Memorial Garden.

She leaves her sons, Napoleon Smith of Holly Springs, Thaddeus Derek Smith of Cleveland, Ohio; daughters, Bessie McCain of Holly Springs, Valerie Smith of Alexandria, Va., Barbara S. Anderson of Holly Springs, Sharon S. Travis of Jackson; sister, Ara Toles Perry of Memphis, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin Smith; children, Celestine Smith, Deborah Smith; siblings, Homer Clyde Toles, Broadis Toles, Willie Toles Jr., R.V. Toles and Lavern Wesson.
