Winston Academy eliminates Marshall 36-0 first round
The Patriots went into Friday’s MAIS first-round playoff game winners of seven of the last eight games. After starting season out with 0-2, Marshall Academy coach Ben Durham’s squad wasted no time turning things around. The MA Patriots were all in for a championship, but to do so, they would have to go through the Patriots of Winston Academy from Louisville.
The Winston defense shut out the Marshall’s offense securing a 36-0 victory.
Winston Patriots ended the Patriots’ season with a 7-4 record.
“It was a big-time environment at Winston. Winston has one of the best defenses I have seen in the last several years,” Durham said.
Durham said “Winston’s offense, brought so much pressure to the game.
“They locked us down. We really struggled up front to get them blocked. It’s hard to get much going when your quarterbacks are running for their lives. But we have a young offensive line and will have four returning next year.”
Durham said their defense kept us in the game.
“They played hard and caused several turnovers. I’m proud of how the team grew throughout the season. We didn’t have a lot of experience coming into the season. We now have several young players coming back,” he said.
Durham said he hopes the Patriots will get in the weight room and get bigger, faster, and stronger.
