The most relaxing trip ever

You know it is a great vacation when you only come home with a few pictures! Last week, Thomas Stewart joined Kay and Laura Wheeler, Hank Wheeler of Newnan, Ga., Grady Brooks and me for a trip to Destin, Florida. Going down there is usually a dreaded thing - miles and miles of two lane where everyone seems to be “Sunday driving”. This trip, we took the route going through Birmingham and on to Montgomery, shaving hours off of the travel time. It was incredible! If you go that direction, that seems to be the quickest route instead of 45 through Meridian, Mobile and cutting down to Florida.

The second day of our adventure, we were welcomed back to the house by a serpent inside the screened porch. Thankfully, Grady and Thomas shooed it on out without doing any damage to the snake and only slight damage to us...well, it was more panic than anything but still, who expects to see a snake at the beach? Certainly none of us. If you do go and stay in the Destin/Miramar Beach area, you need to check out Kenny D’s on Scenic Drive. It looks very unassuming from the road, like a little dive. Not only was the food spectacular, the service and overall dining experience was great! We ate outside, so had plenty to watch. One night, we just ordered appetizers from there to go with the meal fixed at home. Their calamari and both garlic parmesan and oysters rockefeller were scrumptious! Their prices were the best along the Coast for crab legs, too, by a fair amount.

Saturday night, we met up with Beverly and Sandor Viradi at Acme Oyster House for supper. We laughed saying it was a shame we had to drive that distance to see each other when we live 20 miles apart.

It was one of the most relaxing trips ever. Just being away not having to worry about being shot or broken into was a relief.

The Marshall Academy Patriots football team starts their quest this season Friday night at Fayette Academy. Check the sports section for their schedule. This season is bound to be one for the books! Good luck to our Patriots and new head Coach, Ben Durham!
