Todd commits to Florida Gators

When the Florida Gators won the national title in men’s outdoor track and field earlier this month, they did so without any points advantage from the field event. To increase their chances of scoring in the field, Florida picked up a top-ranked high jumper from the transfer portal on Monday.

Corvel Todd announced Monday that he is “110% committed” to Florida.

Todd graduated high school from Byahlia High in Mississippi in 2018. He was the Mississippi state champion in the high jump in 2018 with a jump of six feet eight inches, but before that he had jumped six feet six inches only once. While Todd’s marks were solid, they weren’t big enough to break into D1 level at the time.

Todd would end up at Hinds Community College in Mississippi where he began to flourish. Todd began jumping over seven feet in a row and won the 2019 and 2020 NJCAA indoor national titles as well as the 2019 outdoor national titles at the event.

He graduated from Hinds with a personal best of seven feet two inches.

Todd was transferred to Southern Mississippi where he continued to flourish. He became a two-time Conference USA champion in the high jump. He qualified for the NCAA Division Indoor National Championships in 2021 and 2022, and the Outdoor National Championships in 2022. In both indoor performances, he became an All-American, finishing 5th in 2021 and second in 2022 with a PR of seven feet and six inches.

He was named the 2022 Conference USA Men’s Field Athlete of the Year.

Todd will arrive in Gainesville, for his final year hoping to find continuity during the outdoor season. He failed to qualify for the 2021 Outdoor National Championships and finished 10th at the 2022 Outdoor National Championships, scoring zero points. Todd has the personal best points to be SEC champion and Division 1 national champion if it all clicks on competition day.
