Suspect sought in armed robbery

A suspect is being sought in the early morning hold up of a clerk at Circle K, according to police chief Grant Glover.

He said the suspect entered Circle K at 621 Highway 7 South Wednesday, May 25 at 3:31 a.m. during a heavy rain, laid some items on the counter, then grabbed the clerk by her hand and displayed some type of weapon concealed inside a plastic bag. The suspect demanded money and the clerk opened the register and he took about $75 and fled the store on foot running toward Popeyes, Glover said.

Surveillance tape shows the suspect is a black male wearing brown khaki pants and wearing a camouflage face mask.

Anyone with information regarding this robbery is asked to call the Holly Springs Police Department at 662-252-2122 and ask to speak to Glover or any investigator.

Sexual assault

A 19-year-old reported a sexual assault May 10 after a 10 a.m. incident in the 300 block of Martin Luther King Drive, Glover said.

The female identified the alledged suspect as Sanchez Holloway, 37, of the Greenbriar area, the chief said. The incident was not reported to police until 7:30 p.m., he said.

The victim saw a doctor at Alliance Hospital and was advised to go to the rape crisis center in Memphis, Tenn., for a rape kit, he said.

Holloway was apprehended in the parking lot at Family Dollar on North Memphis Street May 11 where he was arrested and later booked on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, possession of a felony amount of a controlled substance and rape, Glover said.

Holloway is being held in Benton County on a bond of $500,000, the chief said.

Stolen vehicle

A report of a stolen vehicle December 15, 2021, from Wolfe Auto in Holly Springs had netted an arrest, Glover said.

A customer asked to drive a 2015 Dodge Ram valued at $19,900 from the dealership and failed to return the vehicle, the chief said.

The vehicle was listed on National Crime Information Center. Holly Springs police received a call from 201 Poplar Avenue in Memphis, Tenn., that the vehicle was found during a traffic stop.

Christopher Garret, 34, of the 1200 block of Cathy Road, Byhalia, was stopped in the area of Whitten Road in Memphis and the tag was run, Glover said

Holly Springs police were notified the vehicle was recovered and Garret was picked up in Memphis May 23 and returned to the city, the chief said.

Speeding

Glover said speeding tickets are being written especially in the areas of Randolph Street, Van Dorn Avenue and Chesterman Street.

Citizens have been assisting in reporting speeding, Glover said.

Officers wrote about 12 speeding tickets over the May 21 weekend.

Glover asked those who witness speeding in Holly Springs to write a description of the vehicle and get a tag number if possible and report it to police.

“The tag number, color and make of car is a big help for us,” he said.
