Cards rout district foes

The Potts Camp baseball team scored 30 runs in two shortened home games and started district play on a high note last week.

The Cardinals hosted both Leflore County and Charleston Monday, March 21, and they cruised to a pair of 15-0 wins in Region 2-2A action.

In the win over Leflore, Peyton Aldridge and Ian Clifton were the top hitters as they connected for two singles each. Darius McNeil had a triple, Jamie Muse a double and Rey Noguez a single.

Potts Camp scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first and added five in the third to end the contest quickly.

Aldridge tossed a three-inning no hitter for the mound victory. Seven of the nine outs came via the strikeout.

The win over Charleston in the second game of the day was basically a repeat.

Aldridge and I. Clifton again carried the big bats. Aldridge contributed a double and two singles, while I. Clifton had a pair of singles. Getting a single each were Caleb Holmes and Muse.

Potts Camp scored 15 runs in the bottom of the first, and the game was called after Charleston’s at-bat in the top of the second.

Brayden Clifton did not give up a hit in two innings of work on the mound, and struck out four of the six batters he faced. Potts Camp-Hickory Flat

The Cardinals made the short road trip east on I-22 Thursday and dropped a 9-1 decision to the Rebels.

They fell behind early and couldn’t make up the difference. Hickory Flat scored six of its nine runs in the bottom of the second.

Drew Hogan crossed the plate for Potts Camp’s only run in the fifth.

For the Cards, Markavious Faukner had a double and Aldridge a single.

For the Rebels, C.J. Moffitt had a big night with a home run, a double and a single. Hunter Davis was close behind with a triple and two singles. Bradford Hopper and Logan King each had a single.

Potts Camp-Charleston

The Cardinals continued the Region 2-2A scoring barrage at Charleston Friday. The bombed the Tigers 16-3.

Sparking the offensive attack were Hogan with three singles, I. Clifton with three singles, Holmes with a triple and a single, Muse with two singles, B. Clifton with two singles and McNeil with a single.

Potts Camp jumped all over Charleston early, scoring 13 in the first inning. Faulkner earned the pitching win. He struck out five and gave up just one hit in three innings of work.

Potts Camp-Biggersville

The Cards went to Biggersville Saturday and came up just short in an extra-inning contest, 5-4, versus the Lions.

Potts Camp took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third. Biggersville responded with two in the bottom of the inning and one in the fourth to tie the game at 3.

The Cardinals went up 4-3 in their half of the sixth, but the Lions knotted the game again in the bottom of that inning.

The seventh was scoreless, but the host team tallied a run in the bottom of the eight to win it.

The Cardinals (7-6 overall and 3-0 in the district) were scheduled to host Faulkner on Monday of this week and then go to J.Z. George for a district contest Tuesday. They host J.Z. George Friday. Next Tuesday, April 5, they host district foe Bruce.
