Potts Camp sweeps Tigers
It was a successful night for Potts Camp basketball teams Friday at home.
They swept Region 2-2A opponent Charleston — the girls dominating 53-33 and the boys winning a nail-biter, 39-38. Both improved to 3-0 in the district.
The Lady Cardinals made a statement early and kept control the entire game.
Chanyia Collins, Raykiah Stricklen and Malasha Faulkner all scored key buckets in the opening quarter as Potts Camp went up 15-7.
The lead increased to 2815 at the halfway mark.
Faulkner scored nine of her game-high 24 points in the third as the Lady Cards exploded to a 43-21 advantage and cruised from there.
Stricklen also scored in double figures with 12.
Points were difficult to come by in the second game of the night.
The Potts Camp boys struggled early — falling behind 16-11 after the opening quarter.
They bounced back to tie the game at 22 at halftime.
The Cardinals led 33-29 entering the fourth and held on for the one-point win.
Josh Blake was the thorn in the Tigers’ side. He scored a game-high 21 points, 11 in the first half and 10 in the second half.
Potts Camp was just two of 10 from the free-throw line.
The Lady Cardinals (9-6 overall and 3-0 in the district) and the Cardinals (9-9 and 3-0) visited district foe Myrtle on Tuesday of this week. They travel to M.S. Palmer, also a district foe, on Friday. Saturday, they go to Smithville to face the non-district Lady Seminoles and Seminoles. Next Monday, Jan. 24, they host Palmer.
