Fielder's Choice
A parade always brings lots of good cheer.
Such was the case Saturday night in Holly Springs with the Christmas parade coordinated by the Main Street Chamber.
After a year’s absence due to COVID, it was wonderful seeing the parade roll through the downtown area.
I always enjoy watching the faces of the children, as they sit on the curb or stand close to their parents or grandparents.
You can see the joy and amazement in their eyes as the floats with bright lights, bands and other entries pass by.
And, of course, the biggest smiles come when Santa Claus himself waves and shouts “Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas” to the children at the conclusion of the parade.
The Christmas parade always brings people together from throughout the city. That in itself always adds up to success.
Hats off to all who contributed to this year’s parade. I am always hesitant to start naming names, because I would certainly leave someone out who needed praises. You know who you are. Your efforts are indeed appreciated.
And thanks to everyone who turned out along the downtown streets to watch the parade. It was an excellent crowd on a perfect night for a parade.
Christmas parades have long been a favorite of mine personally, even at age 60.
I fondly recall going to Christmas parades as a youngster growing up in Hamilton, Ala. My anticipation was always great.
We’d get there early, trying to find the best spot. And I always wanted to get as much candy as I could.
Other parades in the county are upcoming.
Byhalia will have its parade this Saturday night, Dec. 11, beginning at 6 p.m. Potts Camp’s parade will follow next Monday, Dec. 13, at 6:30 p.m.
Other Christmas activities are well underway around the county. It’s the season for joy. It’s the season for giving.
So many community groups, individuals, businesses, industries, churches and others are reaching out to brighten the days of those in need this holiday season. Your good deeds are appreciated.
A few weeks ago, there was another parade in Holly Springs. The Rust College Founders’ Parade never disappoints. I’ve been able to photograph the parade for many years, and this time around, I had as much fun as ever.
The entries just keep coming and coming and coming.
And once again, the excitement spreads on the faces of everyone — participants and onlookers.
Between the Rust College Founders’ Parade and the Holly Springs Christmas Parade, Sue Watson and I probably took 250 photos. Unfortunately, we can’t run them all in the newspaper. But if you’re looking for one of a particular entry, give us a call. We might just have it.
I’ve often heard that smiling improves one’s health. I’m not sure if that is a fact. But smiling certainly brings about benefits.
And that’s one of the main reasons I love community activities like parades. Parades bring smiles. And we all need smiles, perhaps now more than ever.
