Odie S. Anderson Sr.

Odie S. Anderson Sr., 96, of Byhalia, died November 8, 2021, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of Hearn Grove MB Church in Byhalia where he served as a deacon for over 50 years and chairman of the finance committee. He was a life long farmer and firefighter in Shelby County for 20 years, and he was a World War II veteran.

Services were held on Nov. 16 at St. Matthew Baptist Church in Byhalia with a repast held at Hearn Grove. Pastor Archie Bowen officiated. Burial was in the Anderson Family Cemetery in Byhalia. Gillespie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife of 74 years, Gertrude Richmond-Anderson; two sons, Odie Jr. (Dorothy), Gary (Debra), both of Byhalia; six daughters, Beverly Brown, Vera Johnson (John), both of Byhalia, Alexis Zeidan (Hussein) of Allendale, S.C., JoAnn Anderson of Byhalia, Michelle Branch (Lopez) of Southaven, Felicia Harvell (Joseph) of Byhalia; 25 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
