James Edward Cox
James (Jim) Cox, 103, formerly of Canton, MS, departed this earthly life on June 21, 2021, in San Diego, California.
Born in October of 1917, James was raised just south of Holly Springs on the family farm. His family belonged to Beverlys Chapel CME Church where the children of the family also received some of their early education. A veteran of World War II, he spent some of his time near the front lines in France in the U.S. Army Air Forces. James earned a B.S. degree from Tennessee State in Agriculture in 1949 and later married his sweetheart, Wealthea V. Rockette of Oxford, MS in 1954.
They eventually moved to Canton, MS where he worked for the State of MS Forestry Service until retirement. They were active in their Church, avid gardeners and had a passion for fishing. After his wife of 56 years passed in 2010, he moved to San Diego with his son Reginald in 2013 and enjoyed the "never-ending warm climate with no mosquitos."
Homegoing service was held in the Rotunda Building at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on July 6 where he was laid to rest beside his wife, Wealthea.
He leaves to mourn his passing his son, Reginald (Vicky) and his grandchildren. Also his nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws in both the Cox the Rockette families, friends and caregivers.
Preceding him in death are his parents, James V. and Beulah Cox; and four siblings, Curtis Cox, Helen Cox Hiler, Ruth Cox Smith and "Little" Beulah Cox Streeter.
