Cards win three of four

Potts Camp picked up three wins on the baseball diamond last week, all in exciting fashion.

The Cardinals scored one run in the home half of the last inning Thursday at home and knocked off Shannon 3-2.

Jamie Muse led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple. The Raiders then chose to intentionally walk the next two batters, Grant Martin and Caleb Holmes, which brought Peyton Aldridge to the plate. He drove in Muse, setting off the victory celebration.

Ty Bolden started on the mound and threw 46 pitches. Aldridge tossed 51 pitches in relief.

The Red Raiders scored two runs off three singles in the top of the second to take a 2-0 lead.

The Cards scored one in the bottom of the fourth. Darius McNeal led off with a single and later crossed the plate.

Potts Camp added another run in the bottom of the sixth. Ian Clifton picked up the RBI, scoring Bolden, who had walked.

Aldridge struck out the side in the top of the seventh, setting up the dramatic finish.

Potts Camp-Independence

Coach Dustin Minor’s Cards took a pair of one-run wins over Independence at home Friday evening.

McNeal and Nick Nichols were the heroes in the eighth inning of game one as Potts Camp won 6-5.

The game went to extra innings tied 4. The Wildcats scored one in the top of the eighth.

In the bottom, Holmes and Aldridge both reached base on errors. McNeal drove in Holmes with a hit, and then Nichols’ sacrifice fly scored Aldridge for the game-winning run.

Potts Camp went up 4-0 in the bottom of the first, but Independence chipped away, scoring one in the third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings.

Muse started on the mound and tossed 62 pitches for the Cardinals. Drew Hogan threw 56 pitches in relief.

Holmes got the game-winning hit in game two as Potts Camp knocked off Independence 7-6 in another thriller.

The contest was knotted at 6 going to the seventh.

Independence sent six batters to the plate in their half of the seventh but couldn’t score.

In the bottom for Potts Camp, Muse and Martin both reached on errors with two outs. Then Holmes came up with the big RBI-single to win the game.

The Card trailed 3-0 early and 6-5 after five but rallied.

Ian Clifton had an RBI-single in the fifth and Aldridge an RBI-double in the sixth.

Martin, the starter on the mound, threw 92 pitches. Clifton tossed 54 pitches in relief. Austin Culver also pitched.

Potts Camp-Hickory Flat

The Cardinals opened the season February 25 with a 76 road loss to Hickory Flat.

Potts Camp fell behind 5-1 after four innings. It rallied with five runs in the top of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead.

But the Rebels rebounded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and shut the Cards down in the seventh for the one-run win.

Aldridge had a single and two RBIS for Potts Camp.

Chris Smith hit a two-run homer for Hickory Flat. Logan King had a double and two singles.

Bolden started and threw 100 pitches for the Cards. Martin threw 22 pitches.

The Rebels used four pitchers ­ Smith, King, C.J. Moffitt and Bryan Clayton.

The Cardinals (3-1) played in the Bruce Spring Break Tournament on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Next Monday, March 15, they host Thrasher at 5 p.m., and Tuesday, March 16, they host East Union at 5:30 p.m.
