Cary Duane Carpenter

Cary Duane Carpenter, 41, of West Point, Mississippi, passed away on September 7, 2018, at his home in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Cary was born August 7, 1977, in Memphis, Tenn., to Paul Stephen Carpenter and Teresa Leak Carpenter. He is survived by his parents; brother, Tyler Carpenter of West Point, Miss.; his brother, Lucas Carpenter and sister-in-law Kayla Carpenter, and their two children, his beloved nephews Levi and Kane, of Cumberland, Miss.

Cary graduated from West Point High School in 1995 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Mississippi State University Bagley College of Engineering in 2008. He worked as a Civil Engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in New Orleans for the past ten years. Cary was a veteran, serving his country honorably with the MS Army National Guard from 1995 until 2007, and saw combat duty during the Iraq conflict, serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded several medals and service ribbons during his military career.

Cary loved adventure and was an avid sportsman, particular enjoying fishing, hunting with his mother, golf, and snow skiing.  He loved entertaining and annually hosted dozens of friends, including many from outside the U.S., during Mardi Gras in his adopted home town. Cary loved life and made lifelong friends everywhere he went. He loved to travel and visited many European and South American countries. Cary was loved and will be missed by friends that claim him as family from New York to Argentina.

Cary is preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert Joseph Leak, Dorothy Cole Leak, Irby Watkins Carpenter, and Beth Lafever Carpenter.

Services were Monday, September 17; visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. and funeral service at 3 p.m. at Holly Springs Funeral Home with Dr. Ken Hester of First Baptist Church of Pontotoc officiating, followed by a military graveside service at Hill Crest Cemetery in Holly Springs.

Pallbearers were Keith, Kenny, and Kevin Ferguson; Nolan Fulcher, Sandy Quinn, Chad Fitch, Tripp McCullar, and Wayne Carpenter, with honorary pallbearers, Casey McCullar, Joseph Carpenter, and Alexandria Hurdle.
