Fire strikes King’s Restaurant
A fire destroyed King’s Restaurant & BBQ Sunday night.
Firefighters received a call at 10:05 p.m. and arrived with equipment at 10:11, according to Holly Springs Fire Chief Rodney Crane.
“Heavy smoke blanketed the interior of the structure and was pouring out, and 30 minutes later the fire ventilated through the roof,” he said.
Firefighters initiated an interior attack, but the fire was already in the roof line, he said.
Six vehicles and about 30 firefighters responded to the scene, some from Potts Camp Fire Department in their personal vehicles, and others with their truck from the Barton Fire Department, according to Leland Reed, assistant fire chief.
Barton firefighters manned the Holly Springs Fire Station while city firemen attacked the blaze.
Firefighters wrapped up and went back to the station at about 3:30 a.m. Monday.
King’s is located at 1589 Mary Vance Loop. State and local fire marshals were on the scene Monday investigating the cause of the fire.
The back door of the restaurant was open when firefighters arrived, Crane said.
King’s Restaurant was located in the former Captain D’s seafood restaurant building, adjacent to Interstate 22 in the city.
Car accident
First responders went to a call to Gholson Avenue and South Market Street Saturday at 12:56 p.m. to find one vehicle on its side with the female driver trapped inside. Two people were in the other vehicle, according to Crane.
The Jaws of Life were used to cut out the roof to extricate the driver of the vehicle which was on its side, he said.
That driver, plus one of the persons in the other vehicle, were transported for medical attention, he said.
Teen runs into tree
A large tree that fell over Highway 309 South was struck by a teenager returning home from work Thursday night about 10:05, according to Hugh Hollowell, Marshall County Emergency Management coordinator.
He said the teen ran into the tree branches as he was coming over a hill. The pickup appeared to have been totaled, he said.
The teen was transported for medical attention and had minor injuries, Hollowell said. The pickup cab was caved in upon impact with the branches.
Hollowell said there had been a storm and windy conditions that could have taken the tree down that evening. It was a very large tree, he said.
