County moves forward with changing location of voting precinct
Sheri McClatchy, election commissioner in District 1, is seeking to move the Red Banks voting precinct from the fire department to the Family Life Center at Red Banks Baptist Church.
She said there is not always sufficient space to set up the voting equipment and the fire department has to move its equipment in order for tables and chairs to be brought in for election days.
McClatchy said she has discussed the idea with several churches.
Board attorney Kent Smith said it will take time to notify the U.S. Department of Justice of the requested change in location of the precinct. DOJ does not get into a hurry over anything, he said, but it could possibly be done by the November election. The Red Banks Fire Department is a DOJ approved site.
