Close to Nowhere
• We received an update Monday from candystore.com about the Necco Wafer crisis. Seems like former CEO Al Gulachenski is stepping up, supplying $10 million or so of his own money and looking to raise an additional $20 million and take the company back. He’s going to keep the employees, upgrade, do all kinds of nice stuff.
One small hitch -- there’s another buyer who plans to buy the company and then liquidate. I’m personally rooting for Al!
• The new sewing machine is settling in nicely, the new TV works and my pulled groin muscle is getting better. I’m still hobbling, but the pain is considerably better.
• So, of course, my three-year-old dryer died last week.
Only, maybe, it really wasn’t dead even though a reliable appliance repairman thought it was.
Grandson-in-law Tim was at the house Saturday and outside doing something and he heard the transformer growling. Daughter Dana and I had already heard it, but were working under the assumption that until we lost power, nothing was going to happen.
Tim, an electrician himself, noticed the ground wire was messed up. He called HSUD and shortly, they were out there and fixed the ground wire. (Thank you, guys!)
Sunday, he was working at my dryer and noticed the voltage. The transformer was growling loudly and at my house and Dana’s house the voltage was really high.
Tim called HSUD again and this time a big ole bucket truck showed up. We nearly lost it in the mud in the pasture by the pole, but with chains and what-not, Tim and the HSUD guys got it unmired and they started checking stuff.
In no time at all, the power was out and the toddler in the house was totally amazed, but in the process, we got a new transformer. (Thank you, HSUD!)
Tim was so happy. He was running around checking all the electric stuff and it was all checking normal.
He wondered a time or two out loud if the power being up high had anything to do with the television going bonkers. There’s really no way to tell.
But...he put my dryer back together and said to cross our fingers. He ran it about an hour that night and it ran fine.
Monday, son Kris did his laundry and maybe you’ll be surprised, I certainly was -- the dryer worked perfectly.
Grandsons-in-law are wonderful! And I’ve got two really, really good ones!
