Mitchell uplifts Chulahoma community

Mildred Mitchell was born into a family of educated parents, working parents and politicians.
Her father Napoleon Totten Sr. was a sharecropper and factory worker. Her mother Bernice E. Totten taught elementary school in the public school system and pre-school for ICS Head Start for many years. She also served on the Marshall County Board of Supervisors, District 4, for 14 years.
Bernice Totten left a legacy for women to follow and her name is remembered by many in the boardrooms and elsewhere.
Mitchell was the seventh child of 13 children - 11 boys and two girls.
