Local interest builds to save historic McCarroll Place

Holly Springs is once again in the national spotlight – with visitors, experts and tourists focusing on the city’s diversity, history and architectural uniqueness.

The activity centers around the National Trust Council Tour April 13, Workshop on Interpreting Slavery April 20-21, Behind the Big House Tour and Holly Springs Pilgrimage April 19-21, and the Faulkner Conference Tour of McCarroll Place in July 2018.

The National Trust Council’s “Telling The Full History” tour will visit Holly Springs and other Civil Rights and Blues-related sites in the Mississippi Delta. It is part of the National Trust’s dedication of $25 million to restore and preserve buildings associated with enslaved people. They plan to visit the city and several locations having stories to tell. They will visit Burton Place where they will meet the mayor and special guests June Talley, and Deb Davis, who is a descendant of Tom Burton, an enslaved person who lived on the Burton property.
