Winter’s bite ups utility invoices

In the billing month January 2017, Holly Springs Utility Department sold 34.1 million cubic feet of gas.

This year, HSUD sold 74.7 million cubic feet of gas for the same period.

“During a 10-day stretch, likely longer, the temperatures did not get above freezing and we had some temperatures below 10 degrees,” said Bill Stone, general manager of HSUD. “We had sustained cold in January.

“Last January (2017) was mild. This year the weather was really harsh.”
