Board of supervisors discusses state budget

According to revenue estimates, the state will have $78 million less to work with when budgeting this year, county consultant Gary Anderson told the Marshall County Board of Supervisors.

He added the leadership in Jackson is discussing how to further reduce the budget. Some possible places it may make deeper cuts are in the Medicaid and education budgets. The funding for the MAEP (Mississippi Ade­quate Education Program) is unraveling, he said.

The Local System Bridge Program (LSBP), a fund that counties have relied on to repair or replace local bridges, is also likely to not be revived, he said.
