Letter to the Editor

Thanks to all for supporting BSA for 30 years

Dear Barry:

Byhalia Sports Association would like to thank each of the thousands of children who participated in the recreational baseball and softball program we have provided in Byhalia for 30 years.

Thank you to every parent who entrusted your child to learning not only the game of baseball or softball but hopefully life skills as well. Although, the road has not always been easy, as volunteers we have strived to do our best for the children of the Byhalia area and across four counties. As this chapter comes to a close we hope you will keep your children and grandchildren involved, if not in sports, in something that is their passion. We love every child who has crossed our path, enjoyed watching them learn new skills and grow into productive adults.

To every person who donated money, equipment, or time by serving on the board of directors, coaching, umpiring, working on the fields or grounds, working in the concession stand, helping to build the fields and two concession stands, cheering on the kids, or even picking up trash, we are grateful.

The Town of Byhalia and Byhalia Sports Association have been unable to agree on the terms of a lease that we believe would be in the best interest of the children for the use of the fields on Lowry Road for 2018; therefore, we will be unable to provide a program of baseball and softball this year. No other organizations are affiliated with Byhalia Sports Association.

Please note that we are not indicating blame on either side. Sometimes you have to agree to disagree. Neither are we stating that ball will not be available in Byhalia this year. We are only announcing that it will not be offered by Byhalia Sports Association. We are not looking for drama or negativity. The children are the future and they are the most important asset any community has. Support them any way you can.

Sincerely,
Janice Wagg
President, Byhalia Sports Association
