Byhalia takes two from cross-county rival Potts Camp
It was all Byhalia Friday night when teams from Potts Camp came to town.
The Lady Indians went on the warpath from the opening tip and routed the Lady Cardinals 64-23.
The Indians followed that up with a dominating win of their own – downing the Cardinals 79-31.
When Shaquira Caradine scored back-to-back buckets, a three and a two, the Byhalia girls led 11-0 at the 5:48 mark of the first.
The Lady Indians used full-court pressure to force several Potts Camp turnovers.
Their lead was 22-6 at the end of the quarter.
Leekadra Smith hit a three to start the second and up the advantage to 25-6.
Potts Camp showed some life later in the quarter. Ashley Anderson converted a three-point play (basket in the lane and free throw). A little later, LaKayla Collins cashed in a four-point play. She was fouled when she hit a three and then made the charity shot.
However, the Lady Cardinals were down 39-18 at the half.
Byhalia turned up the defensive heat again in the third. Shay Johnson’s three put the Lady Indians up 53-18 with 3:20 to go in the third and they went on to win by 41.
Leading point producers for Byhalia were Johnson with 18, Smith with 12 and Caradine with 10.
Three players scored seven each for Potts Camp – L. Collins, Chanyce Collins and A. Anderson.
In the second game of the evening, the Cardinals kept it close in the first but the Indians exploded on their way to a 48-point victory.
Byhalia went up 6-1 when Xzaverion Crockett scored off an assist from Corvell Todd. A minute later, Trell Kimmons drilled a three to cut the Cards’ deficit to 8-4.
Byhalia was on top 15-9 after the first quarter.
Corey Hardin sparked the Indians in the second quarter. He scored six straight points to up the lead to 21-9.
Later in the second, Jecoreion Crockett and Deandre Martin each hit a three, and Byhalia’s advantage was 40-20 at intermission.
Todd and Hardin ignited the home crowd with dunks in the third. The lead increased to 54-23.
Byhalia was up 65-28 after three quarters.
Ten Indians scored in the game. Leading the way were Martin with 18 and Hardin with 14.
Top scorers for the Cardinals were Kimmons with 12 (four three-pointers) and Mitchell Saulsberry with 12.
Byhalia-Rosa Fort
On Tuesday night of last week, Byhalia basketball teams hosted Rosa Fort and earned the sweep.
Johnson scored 20 points as the Lady Indians crushed the Lady Lions 63-38.
They were up 16-12 after one quarter, 28-20 at the half and 51-24 following three quarters.
Others hitting in double digits for Byhalia were Caradine with 14 and Tialexus Stevenson and Smith with 10 each.
The Byhalia boys survived a close contest versus Rosa Fort, winning 57-55.
They carried an eight-point lead to the fourth and then had to hang on for the victory.
Demetrius Jones led the Indians with 17 points. Todd followed with 11.
The Lady Indians (7-0) and the Indians (4-3) visited Southaven Tuesday. They will host Corinth Friday.
