Storm causes damage

A brief storm packing strong winds left widespread outages throughout the Holly Springs Utility Department service area over the weekend.

The damages and loss of electricity started Saturday afternoon when the cold front quickly moved through Holly Springs and surrounding communities.

“It left behind a lot of damage that we had to repair,” said Bill Stone, general manager of HSUD. “It was a long afternoon and evening for our workers.”

Areas where customers were affected included Laws Hill Road, Highway 7 South, Hernando Road, Craft Street, Little Snow Creek Road, Wyatt’s Crossing and the Fairgrounds in Ashland.

Stone said crews worked until 2 a.m. Sunday and then HSUD personnel were back on the job Sunday prior to 8 a.m.

Most customers were back on Saturday night. Other HSUD work continued into Sunday and the early part of the week.

“We will still be repairing damage into Monday and possibly on into the week,” Stone said.

“Thank you to the customers for their understanding and patience, and a special thank you to our dedicated employees who worked around the clock to solve the problems and restore electricity to our customers.

“We had outages from one tip of our coverage area to another – from Lafayette County to Canaan.”
