Hannah Swallers, a senior at Marshall Academy, signed a softball scholarship Friday morning with Itawamba Community College. She is seated with her parents Jeff and Wendi Swallers. Standing are Carlton Gibson, her head coach at Marshall, and Rose Kalisak (Coach K), her pitching instructor. Swallers, the Lady Patriots’ number one pitcher, threw 123 innings this past season as MA won the Class AA state championship. She recorded 175 strikeouts and had a 1.419 earned run average. From the batter’s box, Swallers hit .323 with a .405 on-base percentage. She had 31 hits, including 15 singles, 11 doubles, three triples and two home runs. “She is very talented, and I look for her to play two years at ICC and then move to the next level after that,” Gibson said. “She did an awesome job for us in the circle. And she came through with some big hits, too.” Coach K said Swallers was motivated and worked hard. “I know she will be very successful at ICC,” she said.
