Four arrested in assault
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department made four arrests in a shooting outside a residence on Moore’s Crossing South, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson.
He said deputies were dispatched to a house in regards to a shooting around 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8.
A person was outside his residence when a vehicle drove up, and then multiple shots were fired at the victim and his house. The victim was not struck by gunfire.
The shooting incident caused several thousand dollars in damage to the structure, the sheriff said.
When officers arrived on the scene, the victim provided a description of the vehicle and individuals inside it, he said.
“We were notified one of the individuals was currently at the Byhalia Police Department,” Dickerson said. “Upon further investigation and talks with witnesses, investigators were able to identify all suspects allegedly involved in the shooting.”
Madison Diane Gartrell, 19, of the Senatobia area, Anna Edwards, 21, of the Southaven area, Emily Grace Marsglia, 18, of the Southaven area, and Tyler L. Polk, 19, of Memphis, Tenn., were arrested Thursday, Nov. 9, he said, after a warrant was issued by justice court judge Ernest Cunningham.
Each suspect was charged with one count of aggravated assault and bail was set at $25,000 each, according to Dickerson.
The suspects remained in jail as of presstime Tuesday.
Investigators recovered multiple projectiles from the victim’s house.
Precautions for holiday season
Dickerson urged all citizens to be vigilant about strangers driving through their neighborhood during this season. Things like four-wheelers and trailers should be locked up. The serial numbers on any outside equipment or indoor properties should be written down and kept in a safe place in case burglars or thieves steal something. These numbers are helpful in attempting to identify stolen properties, he said.
Anyone who sees any suspicious activity in their neighborhood is advised to call the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department at 662-252-1311 and ask to speak with the sheriff or an investigator. Those who provide tips regarding any crime or any suspicious activity will remain anonymous and the information provided will be kept in strict confidence. Awards are offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects in some crimes.
Dickerson said his department is already receiving calls regarding stolen vehicles and burglaries. With the coming hunting season, people are likely to notice unfamiliar vehicles in their neighborhoods.
Report any suspicious activity and identify any suspicious vehicle to law enforcement. Help keep your neighborhood safe, Dickerson said. An investigator will be sent out to any neighborhood reporting suspicious activity.
Residents should not attempt to speak with anyone who seems to be suspicious, but should report it to investigators only.
