Sellers leads MVSU to conference crown

An H.W. Byers graduate led the Mississippi Valley State University women’s cross country team to a conference championship.

Autezia Sellers, a junior at MVSU, is the team captain for the Devilettes, who recently captured the Southwestern Athletic Conference title. Her teammates on the first-place team are Kenya Davis, Scholasticah Kemei, Derica Pitters, Fantasia Ard, Mya Dumpson, A’jani Williams and Alice Kimutai.

It was the first women’s cross-country championship in MVSU history.

Six-time defending champion Alabama State finished second.

In her freshman and sophomore years, Sellers won the Athletic Academic Award. As a sophomore, she was named Most Improved in cross country and indoor track.

She was made captain of the cross country team her sophomore year (2016) and was a major contributor as coach Fermon Tate’s MVSU team finished second to Alabama State.

Then this year the Devilettes ran their way to the top of the conference.

Sellers was selected All Conference Second Team.

She is a biology major at Mississippi Valley with a 3.5 grade point average.
