Hawks let close game slip away

Holly Springs trailed Independence by just three at the half.

“Then we made too many mistakes – young and inexperienced,” head coach Donald Deans said. “My stress level rose Friday night.”

The Hawks fell to the Wildcats 36-7 in the Region 2-3A match-up.

Holly High definitely had the momentum early.

On its first possession, Andrew Martin reeled in a 62-yard pass from Dylan King. It put the ball on the Independence 8. On fourth and goal from the 2, the Hawks tried a field goal which was no good.

The next time they had the ball, the Hawks got another big play, this time for a touchdown. Joshua Kimble carried to the end zone from 64 yards out. Ahmed Alhalemi kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead.
