County agrees to assist with work on new track

Rev. R.J. Wilson, superintendent Irene Turnage and Adam Andrews, representing the Holly Springs School District, approached the Marshall County Board of Supervisors recently for help with construction of a running track at Sam Coopwood Park.

The preparation of the site for laying of an asphalt surface is a large part of the expense of track construction, they said.

The current track area will be expanded to create a track for college or high school competition – eight lanes. The dirt on the existing track area would have to be cut down and expanded wider. Then fill material would have to be added. After that, asphalt would be laid, then a rubberized surface would go over the asphalt.
