One killed in I-22 crash

A man driving a pickup truck was killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday, Oct. 2, around 6:30 a.m. on I-22, according to Marshall County Coroner James Richard Anderson.

Sheriff Kenny Dickerson said an 18-wheeler going east-bound in the westbound lane on the interstate and the pickup truck collided head-on between the Victoria and Red Banks exits. The driver of the pickup truck was identified as Thomas James Finley Jr., 39, Anderson said.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported by ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Olive Branch, Anderson said.

Both the 18-wheeler and the pickup burned in the crash.

The accident was worked by the Mississippi Highway Patrol, officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and by the Holly Springs, Red Banks and Victoria fire departments.

It remains under investigation by the highway patrol.

In a separate single-vehicle accident that occurred Sunday, Sept. 24, a Marshall County man lost control of his vehicle and was ejected.

Anderson said he received a call around 1:20 a.m. and pronounced Steven Norris Walton Jr., 33, dead on the scene.

Walton was driving southbound on Highway 311 near the area of Strawberry M.B. Church when he lost control of his vehicle, Anderson said. The vehicle flipped and hit several trees.
