Friday night, the Marshall Academy Patriots snuffed out the shine of the Stars of Winona Christian Academy in Winona. The battle was a hard fought one, with a lot of athleticism and physicality on both sides. This season, the Patriots have suffered with a plethora of injuries, but battle every single week for their fans in the stands. This week, they will match up with Magnolia Heights for homecoming. This is the first time in several years that these two teams have met up on the gridiron. If you are out and about and wanting to watch a really good football game, go on down to Patriot field Friday night at 7 p.m. It is the best entertainment around and always fun-filled.
Congratulations to the Marshall Academy Lady Patriots softball team. The ladies handily defeated several opponents over the weekend to land them in the championship game Monday afternoon. They took the AA North State tournament by storm, bringing home the championship!
Monday night, the All Arts Holly Springs council, headed up by Alexa Ashmead, hosted a reception with special guest speaker and local artist, Dale DeBerry. The event was held in the beautifully renovated Depot. DeBerry spoke eloquently about his upbringing in Holly Springs, his family and his gorgeous art. The way he described each of his pieces was incredible, each tying back to a positive message for everyone in the room. He spoke to a packed house, young and old alike, spreading his motivation and how integral art is to not only our daily lives, but the lives of our youth right here in Holly Springs. If you have never had the opportunity to sit down and have a chat with Mr. DeBerry, you are missing out. Leaving the forum, I felt refreshed and very enlightened by his message. He is truly one of a kind and a master of his trade. I am proud to call him friend, although I will never call him Dale.
Every fourth Monday of the month, the council will have different speakers. We are very fortunate to have this wonderful group working in Holly Springs to promote local artists and bring our community together. Your time will be well spent once a month for roughly an hour. It is a gift for our community, as it is free to the public.
