County’s online sale successful

Marshall County Tax Collector Betty Byrd told the board of supervisors the online tax lien sale brought in twice as much revenue to the county through overbidding.

This year is the first time the county has held its tax lien sale online using govease.com.

There were 246 registered bidders and 47 active buyers, Byrd said. Overbid came to $175,059. The 2015 tax lien sale held in Courtroom B in Holly Springs brought in $86,552.90.

The number of parcels sold this year was 2,143, compared to 2015 when 2,205 parcels were sold. The overall trend since 2009 has been an increase in buyers and a decrease in parcels in the sale.

The sale collected $1,688,354.78 this year and $1,795,229.77 in 2015.
