Hawks come up short versus Jaguars
It was a crowd befitting a homecoming game. Approaching Sam Coopwood Park in Holly Springs Friday night from any direction, one encountered a sea of vehicles.
The Hawks and J.Z. George Jaguars tangled in a nail-biter for the huge crowd with the Hawks coming up short, 16-12.
“It was a defensive battle,” said Donald Deans, head coach of the Hawks. “We had some key mistakes early in the game that hurt us.”
The visitors won the toss and were first over the ball. The signal-caller made a few quick handoffs, keeping the ball on the ground. The Jags picked up firsts which carried them well into Hawk territory. They were steadily moving the Holly High defense.
