Milestone for local graduates

The next two weeks mark milestones for high school and college graduates. As they begin their journey, I can only hope they remember their hometown and the people in it who were rooting for them to succeed from day one.

Oftentimes, we tend to lose sight of what is important in this life. People get busy chasing the almighty dollar, wanting to move up the corporate or social ladder and find life outside the 38635 zip code. Being able to grow up in a small town like Holly Springs is a privilege. Not many people in this country are fortunate enough to have what we all have here, to experience the beautiful life a small town offers.

As easy as it is to wander this big country, graduates, please remember your roots. Do not get caught up in the rat race of life; remember to breathe. The “real world” can be so overwhelming at times. The people who raised you, including all of the others who consider you “theirs,” will always have an open door for you. No problem is too big that the village cannot help to solve it. Remember that, as you shake the hand of your principal, headmaster or dean and receive your diploma.
