Caitlyn Brooks celebrated escaping her teen years Friday night with a birthday dinner hosted by Kay Wheeler. She was surrounded by family and extended family member, Jacob Shaw. Her granddaddy, Hank Wheeler, of Newman, Ga., was also in town to celebrate her 20th with her.

A big Happy Birthday wish goes out to Paxton Clark, grandson of Grace Bonds, who celebrated his first birthday Saturday. He had a lumberjack theme for his party, which was attended by family and friends. His parents are Wynne and Josh Clark of Fulton.

Midge Bagwell, Kay Wheeler and I attended a book signing at Off Square Books Thursday night in Oxford. Lisa Liddy, Deles Farley and Becky and Greg Rayloe were also in attendance. Famed author Greg Iles of Natchez was on hand to discuss his last book in a trilogy, Mississippi Blood, and to sign copies. He also entertained the packed house with a song. He divulged to the crowd that he is in a band which also included another fantastic author, Stephen King.

Thacker Mountain Radio hosted the event, which was an hour long live radio broadcast. Clear Creek Gospel Band and Daniel Souvigny, who is a piano prodigy, were the musical spotlights. Troy Bell, who is a moonshiner from the Carolinas, was also on hand to discuss her book, as well as share her spirits.
