Reception honors Carolyn Brown at Kate Freeman Clark Art Gallery

Congratulations to the Marshall Academy Lady Patriots getting to the semi-final round of the overall basketball tournament last week in Clinton at Mississippi College. Coach Michael Clifton stepped up and took charge, helping them come together as a team. He was animated on the sidelines and never cracked under pressure, helping the girls turn their dreams into reality.

It has been a wonderful journey watching seniors Blake Martin, Hailey McMinn and Sam Wilkins playing all of their varsity years together, moreover watching Blake and Hailey come up together from PeeWee and develop into incredible players. Those young ladies showed that when you work hard, have fun and love the game, anything is possible. Their dreams became a reality when they cinched the AA state title, so going to overall and making it that deep into it was mere icing on the cake.

The senior players, including Bryanna Miller, have left a legacy for years to come. The best memories are the ones that you try to explain but in the end, you just say, “You had to be there.” Thank you for all of the priceless memories, ladies, and allowing all of us to be a part of your incredible journey to the top!

Thursday, a beautiful reception was held for Carolyn J. Brown, author of “The Artist’s Sketch; A Biography of Painter Kate Freeman Clark” at the Kate Freeman Clark Art Gallery. Books were available for purchase and Brown was available for signing the copies. Once again, Carl Isom outdid himself on the centerpiece for the food table. Wonderful delicacies were prepared by local caterers Diane Greer and Maia Miller. The event was put on by the art gallery, which is overseen by Walter Webb. The book is dedicated to Bea Green, who resides in the former home of Kate Freeman Clark.
