Shelton, former superintendent, loses battle with cancer

Becky Cupp, Robin Seale, Vicki Webb and Kay Wheeler attended the performance of “The Bodyguard” Saturday at The Orpheum in Memphis, Tenn. They enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Pearl’s Oyster House before the show.

Thursday, January 26,  Dwight Shelton, 77, lost his two-year battle with leukemia. He was a former Holly Springs city school superintendent. Throughout his educational career, he molded many minds in both administrative and teaching roles, as well as being director of federal programs. Dwight spent his lifetime working to help the youth. His influence was not only a positive one, but also kind. He was a sweet soul, as the majority of people my age grew up around Holly Springs knowing him. He leaves behind his wife, Julia Shelton, of Myrtle Beach, SC, his son, Sean Shelton of Augusta, Georgia, and his only grandson, Colby Shelton, also of Augusta. He will be remembered as a forward thinker for his time, a man who was true to his word and a real gem in the educational realm.

This is Catholic School Week. Holy Family school children participated in many events in celebration of this. They had health screenings, visiting pastors from area churches and the students made Valentine cards for local nursing homes, as well as place mats to be used at the Garden Cafe. If you are unaware of this mission, the Catholic Church, as well as volunteers, serve food to the less fortunate. The children at Holy Family were proud to be a part of the community outreach that is so valuable to Holly Springs.
