Painted rocks spread kindness

Janie Hulsey took up rock painting as a way to spread joy in downtown Holly Springs.

The movement was started in Memphis, Tenn., to plant joy by painting rocks and starting rock hunts. It was begun by Lisa Dawson and Amy McSpadden, an art teacher, to get children involved in something positive and exciting.

First, there is the excitement of rock painting, then the excitement spreads as the rocks are hidden. Third, those who plant rocks can enjoy watching people scavenger hunt.

McSpadden is an art teacher at Bruce Elementary in Memphis.
