Yates Construction donates bikes and trikes

A friendly competition between Yates Construction, its employees and some of its vendors meant 160 Marshall County kids got a new bicycle or tricycle for Christmas, according to District 2 supervisor Johnny Walker.

“I talked with Penny Gabriel and asked her if she could get some money for bicycles,” Walker said. “She asked how many, and I said at least 100.”

Gabriel then launched a competition among Yates employees and vendors and produced 160 new bikes and trikes. A helmet was provided for each child as well.

Yates employees assembled the bikes and brought some of them to the Marshall County Workforce Center and each supervisor district got an share to distribute out into their district as they saw fit.

District 5 supervisor Ronnie O’Neil Bennett distributed his share at the Potts Camp Fire Department. District 1 supervisor Goston Glover took his to Latter Rain Church in his district to distribute.

Walker and District 3 supervisor Terry Rodgers distributed their shares Friday, December 26 at the Marshall County Workforce Center.

“I talked to her (Gabriel) last year,” Walker said.
