Woman faces murder charge

An 11 a.m. shooting Sunday, May 16, at a residence on Marianna Road ended in the death of a man and the charging of his sister with murder, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson.

He said officers and medics were called to 4886 Marianna Road where the unresponsive body of Terry Leon Yager, 55, of 333 Clark Road, Byhalia, lay face up on the ground. The deceased had no pulse at the time the first group of deputies and medics arrived on the scene, followed by Dickerson, Maj. Kelly McMillen and investigator Perry Pipkin.

Yager sustained a fatal gunshot wound in the chest area, the sheriff said.

Dickerson said deputies Larry Rankin, Steve Gurley and Mark Kaply and medical personnel were first on the scene.

Yager would have been 56 in June. Dickerson said Yager's sister, Gina Trantham, 58, was taken into custody. Later a handgun was recovered that had been fired several times, with at least one round striking the victim, he said. Trantham said her brother had come to her house where she lived with her husband, and the siblings exchanged words prior to the shooting.

"The suspect stated her brother was using threatening words of abuse at the time of the incident," the sheriff said.

Trantham was charged with murder at the jail, he said, and the suspect remains in custody under a $250,000 bond set during an initial appearance in Marshall County Justice Court Monday.
