Water leak tests mettle of crews

Holly Springs Utility Department crews worked late Tuesday night, Oct. 20, and were back on site Wednesday morning repairing a water leak affecting a large area,

Clay Moore with the water department said a sleeve on a 6-inch water main was leaking and had to be cut out and sleeved back together.

The leak was located on Cedar Hills Drive in a curve near the Liddy and Burleson homes.

It took a good while to locate the valves to turn off the water, Moore said.

“We couldn’t locate the valves in the dark and we found them today (Oct. 21),” he said.

A very large cavity was opened on the east side of Cedar Hills Drive to repair the leak.

Jared Johnson with HSUD said crews were out until after midnight then came back to work at 7 a.m. “We’ve been here all day,” he said. By 3 p.m. Wednesday the almost around-the-clock dig-out was being backfilled.

Areas affected that had water cutoff were in the Marshall Academy area, Cedar Hill area, and up to West Boundary at Chulahoma Avenue.

HSUD crews were back on site early this week, wrapping up repair work on the street itself.
